Acquiring Baby Stuff

A popular question that is posed as soon as people realize your baby is coming in less than 4 months is the following: Are you ready? Although we truly believe that we will never be completely ready for all the changes heading our way, we have begun to acquire some baby stuff.

As we begin buying things in an effort to prepare ourselves, we have gained some favorite items as well as some favorite ways to get them.

Here are our top 4 ways to get baby stuff.

#1 - Off of Craigslist.com

This was our first very exciting baby acquisition - a Bob revolution stroller. I think Dave will expound on the virtues of this stroller at a later date for you. Even getting this stroller off of Craigslist was not very easy considering their popularity. I was watching and checking regularly and managed to contact the seller within 10 minutes of her posting it and then drive and claim it within an hour. Of course it was all worth it to get one for about 1/2 the price they cost new.

#2 From a friend

These bags of clothes were given to us by a very generous friend (thanks, Kristine), whose little girl has now outgrown them. They include numerous gorgeous baby and little girl outfits in pink and purple. Fun!

#3 From a garage sale

Those of you who know me know that I am an avid garage saler. Our entire house was furnished off of garage sales, and why should the acquiring of baby stuff be any different? These were the first couple toys that I bought at a garage sale. We can't wait to use them with her.

#4 On clearance
You might not be able to see these two outfits clearly, so allow me to point out their particularly exciting features. One says "rock star" across the front, and the other is covered in little pink electric guitars.
We're looking forward to seeing our little girl using and enjoying these things.

Week 24 Ultrasound

Here are some pictures from our 24 week ultrasound. At this point she has turned completely upside down and is head down (although she might not stay that way). It was fun to see her again and to see how she has grown. Her little arms and legs look chubbier. These 4D ultrasound pictures are incredible to us. Isn't she the most beautiful baby in the world? Look at her covering her eyes with her hands. Her favorite game is already peek-a-boo.
I can stare at these photos for hours. We were very excited to get this glimpse of our little girl.
In case you had trouble telling she was a girl in our girl pics from 19 weeks, this picture makes it a little more obvious . . .

Her profile is so darling that we'll include that picture here for you to enjoy as well.
The doctor said she is so gorgeous to scan that I should come and be an ultrasound model for their training in a couple weeks (maybe he's just desperate for people). They are doing a training on ultrasound technology and need pregnant women to come in and be scanned during the training. As much as we love seeing our little girl, I think we're going to pass on that one.

Baby Names

Whether or not you have experienced the joys of going meticulously through a baby name book name by name, feel free to join with Dave and I in our amusement over what is indubitably the worst name of our book ("The One-in-a-Million Baby Name Book"). We are currently in the "O"s, but this name caught our attention in a way that none of the other truly bizarre names have.
What makes the following conversation even funnier is the fact that our real estate agent is Frank Zappa's biggest fan, and we have recently discussed the music of Zappa at great length with him. Here is how our conversation went.

Dave (while scanning rapidly through the names): "Moon-unit! Who would ever name their child that??!!"
Tracy (reading the notes on the name): "Frank Zappa, apparently."

Needless to say, I don't think Moon-unit is a name in the running for our little girl.

Dave won a work photo contest with this photo. A picture can say a thousand words . . .

It's a GIRL!

We recently found out that our precious baby is, in fact, a healthy little GIRL! What an amazing blessing. We are very happy and excited. What we find humorous is that God has known the whole time. While we were walking around thinking maybe it was a boy, He knew we were wrong.

We were able to see our tiny unborn daughter kick, try to suck her thumb, and wave around her little hands. What a miracle life is! We are grateful every day that God has chosen to form this new little person.

Snoogle!

What do you call an oversized snake-like pillow that takes up more than its fair share of bed space? A snoogle! Head, leg, back, and belly support all in one cuddly, comfy package. Did I mention it's pink...
